13th December 2022

What are your thoughts on wearing a veil? Are you the type that has dreamed about that moment since being a little girl or do you feel they are outdated and not for you?

Whichever it is, I’m talking us through all things VEILS!

One question we get asked a lot is “Should, or could I wear a veil with my dress?”

Now, of course there are reasons why a veil would, or would not work with your dress but to make it simple…IF YOU WANT TO WEAR A VEIL, THEN DO IT!

There is not really a right or wrong with veils, it really is a lot of personal choice and all depends on the look you would like to create.

Nowadays there are endless styles for you to choose from so you will be LITERALLY spoilt for choice…

It’s all about the DETAIL…

If you really want to bring the drama opt for a CATHEDRAL length veil to finish off your look!

TOP TIP: If your dress has a scalloped hem (like the picture below) then a veil that has detail flowing up from the bottom really brings the detail from both the dress and the veil together rather than competing with each other.

Don’t believe that a veil makes that much difference?

Believe it or not the 3 pictures below are all the same dress but just look how each veil creates a completely different look…

TOP TIP: When choosing your veil make sure that you try on a few different options with your dress to make sure you find the perfect one for you. With most dresses there will be quite a few different veils that would work so you need to make sure that the one you choose it just right…

Here’s some of the most frequently asked questions our bridal stylists get asked…

Can i wear the veil over my face?

OF COURSE, YOU CAN! In fact, it’s actually very on trend to wear a veil to cover your face. (This style is called a two-tier veil)

Any of our veils are available in this style or as a single tier (not designed to cover your face).

Nowadays there is less obligation to cover your face so unless you must for religious reasons then you have the chance to try both and decide what feels best to you.

Does a veil work in any hairstyle?

In short, we would say yes. Your hairstylist should be able to work one into any hairstyle you choose but in reality, some do work better than others.

For example, if you opt for a very detailed veil, they would work better with an updo of some kind as the weight of the veil will be much more supported.

In saying this you can wear a veil with your hair down but we would always recommend having your hair stylist backcomb particular sections of the hair so that your veil feels secure and stays in place.

We always recommend taking your veil to your hair trial so that you can make sure that both you and your stylist are comfortable with exactly how you want your hair to be. (Trust us, it’s worth it to have a stress-free morning on the big day!)

What is the difference between different veil lengths?

I’m sure you have heard all the different length terms by now…Chapel, fingertip, cathedral, royal, church, floor and even flyaway and it makes it seem like an absolute mind field but don’t worry we are here to help!

You can actually have any of our veils made into whatever length you would like but there are around 5 standard lengths that work best for most dresses. Our best advice is to come into store and we can go through all the best options for you based on your dress. We can show you all the different lengths available and advise what kind of style and detail works the best to complete your look!

Does it really make a difference which veil I choose?

We get asked this question a lot and the answer is ABSOLUTLEY!

You need to choose a veil that compliments your dress and it should complete your whole ‘Bridal Look’.

With so many veil options available it can be hard to choose a favourite but our advice it to go with the one that makes you feel the most special – that’s what it’s all about!

Our bridal stylists are experts in helping our brides answer all their questions and queries so why not book a veil appointment for us to help guide you through everything you need to know!
